Mobile devices are over taking the PC for surfing the web with Morgan Stanley analyst Mary Meeker predicting that web surfing from mobile devices while surpass that by PCs in 2014. “The number of people who access the Internet only through mobile devices will grow from 14 million in 2010 to 788 million by 2015. Meanwhile, the number of smartphones will rise from about 500 million today to 2.5 billion.”
This is a major shift for our society, technologically but also politically and economically. Mobile and the social technologies it enables will free people to work, live and learn in transformative new ways.
The Future of the Mobile Industry
Researchers for the Chetan Sharma Consulting group have put together a 2011 State of the Global Mobile Industry mid-year assessment and have come up with some very interesting findings about the future of the mobile industry. Their report estimates that Mobile is now 2% of the World’s GDP.
